Dutch schoolgirl, Anne Frank, turned 13 and was given a diary. It was supposed to be an autograph book, but because it had a lock, Anne used it to record her secret thoughts. A year later, her father moved their family and others into the annexe of his Amsterdam, the Netherlands office to escape the Nazis. They hid in silence for nearly two years.
