Spread even more thinly, the 232nd Infantry took up the entire defense of 19 miles of the Rhine with the Second and Third Battalions on the line and the First just behind them in reserve in the town of Souffel-Weyersheim, about a mile and half north of the outskirts of Strasbourg.
