The 15 Sqdn left from Bourn at 1943-03-23 at 19:28
On Tuesday 23 March 1943, a member of the 15 Sqdn, Sergeant B Taaffe, took off from Bourn in the United Kingdom. His mission is mentioned elsewhere on WW2 History Europe. Campaign report of the USAAF:


22 March 1943 (Eighth Air Force): VIII Bomber Command Mission No. 46: 76 B-17's and 26 B-24's are dispatched against the U-boat yards at Wilhelmshaven, Germany; 69 B-17's and 15 B-24's drop 224 tons of bombs on the target at 1501-1510 hours local. We claim 28-9-9; we lose 1 B-17 and 2 B-24's; 12 B-17's and 10 B-24's are damaged; casualties are 1 KIA, 18 WIA and 32 MIA. The 452d Bombardment Squadron (Medium), 322d Bombardment Group (Medium) with B-26's transfers from Rattlesden to Rougham, England.

St Nazaire

357 aircraft - 189 Lancasters, 99 Halifaxes, 63 Stirlings, 6 Mosquitos - despatched to St Nazaire. 1 Lancaster lost.

6 Wellingtons laid mines off Texel without loss.

23 March 1943

15 Mosquitos to railway-engine works at Nantes. Direct hits were scored and no aircraft were lost.

23/24 March 1943

45 aircraft laid mines in the Frisian Islands and south of Texel, 21 OTU aircraft dropped leaflets over French towns. 2 Wellingtons lost, one each from the minelaying and OTU forces.
