Avro Lancaster I ED366 AS-? airborne 17:55 on 22 Oct 1943 from Kirmington to bomb a target in Kassel.
Cause of loss not established. Crashed at Obermeiser, 12 km SE of Warburg.
Those killed are buried in the Hannover War Cemetery.
This aircraft was one of 620 Lancasters ordered from A.V.roe (Chadderton in 1941 and built from Nov 1942 to Jun 1943 as 129 Mk.Is and 491 Mk.IIIs, mixed up to ED782, and all as Mk.IIIs from ED783 onwards.
Mk.Is were initially fitted with Merlin 20 and Mk.IIIs with Merlin 28 engines. ED366 was a Mk.I and was delivered to No.100 Sqdn Dec 1942, transferred to No.460 Sqdn (no date) joined No.166 Sqdn ex-46MU 15 Oct 1943. ED366 undertook no Key Raids with either No.100 Sqdn or No.460 Sqdn.
With No.166 took part in the key raid against Hannover 18/19 Oct 1943. Chorley, W R. (1996).
