After a 2-night rest, the home-based night squadrons resumed intensive operations. 139 aircraft - 51 Whitleys, 49 Wellingtons, 39 Hampdens - were sent to Northern Germany and numerous targets in the Ruhr. 2 Whitleys were lost. A report from Cologne says that 20 high-explosive bombs fell in the city centre; 3 industrial premises were severely damaged and a Rhine cargo ship was sunk. 6 civilians were killed, the heaviest casualty list so far in Cologne.

69 aircraft - 38 Whitleys, 26 Wellingtons, 5 Hampdens - were sent to oil targets at Hamburg, Bremen and in the Ruhr and to railways at many other places. 2 Whitleys and 1 Wellington were lost. Hamburg reports 9 fires, 6 of them large ones, 1 civilian killed and 6 injured.
